The Falls of Rauros
THE DAY
February 25, 3019 TA
Now then, after the Argonath, they arrive at the falls of Rauros and Tol Brandir.
“At the far southern end rose three peaks. The midmost stood somewhat forward from the others and sundered from them, an island in the waters, about which the flowing River flung pale shimmering arms. Distant but deep there campe up on the wind a roaring sound like the roll of thunder heard far away. ‘Behold Tol Brandir!’ said Aragorn…”
To the right of Tol Brandir is Amon Hen, and the lawn of Parth Galen is at the feet of Amon Hen.
“Aragorn led them to the right arm of the River. Here upon its western side under the shadow of Tol Brandir a green lawn ran down to the water from the feet of Amon Hen.”
They spend the night here, and of course one must not forget that Gollum has been tracking them since Moria. I have noticed that a lot of Aragorn’s lines in the book were given to Legolas in the movie. This does not particularly bother me, because to me it is more important that things get said at all, then who ends up saying them. But it’s interesting to point out that Aragorn and Legolas were switched up a little in the movies. In the books, it tended to be Aragorn who explained where they were and told the hobbits what they were seeing. Legolas was quieter and more reserved and mysterious. In the movies, Aragorn is the broody one, and Legolas the explainer. One of Legolas’ lines at Parth Galen in the movie is “a shadow and a threat has been growing in my mind” or something to that effect. In the book:
“’Why are you waking?’ asked Frodo. ‘It is not your watch.’‘I do not know,’ answered Aragorn; ‘but a shadow and a threat has been growing in my sleep. It would be well to draw your sword.’”
Another thing that occurred on this day was the first battle of the Fords of Isen. Today is the day that Theodred, son of Theoden King, was killed. Quite tragic that.

THE YEAR
Int he year 2994 TA, Balin dies in Moria, and the Dwarf Colony there was destroyed. It becomes overrun with goblins, trolls, balrog (1), etc. But come on people! Balin died, how sad is that? He was basically Bilbo's best friend, after Gandalf, and he just died. Its very depressing. Or, as Tolkien said, "Balin Perishes".
Pure Uneventfulness

I haven't posted for a bit, and nothing much happened on the next three dates in the Fellowships journey, so I will do three at once.
On January 8th, 3018 TA, the company reached Hollin. Which is...right here:
And then on January 11th and 12th, they tried not to die in the snow on Caradhras. It was much more exciting in the book then it sounds right here. Believe me.
THE YEAR
Coincidentally, our year this time is 2989, which was the year that Balin left Erebor and entered Moria. And we all know what happens NEXT!!
Bain becomes king of Dale
In the Year 2977 TA Bain, son of Bard, became King of Dale.
As a refresher for the old memory, Bard was the man who killed the Dragon Smaug with the Black Arrow, this story is told in The Hobbit. Bard was also a key figure in The Battle of Five Armies and after all that, he was crowned king of Dale officially, though the people had obeyed him as soon as he killed the Dragon. Not only did he prove himself worthy of the crown through his bravery, but he really was king by blood, being related to the last king of Dale. But Dale had not had a king for a long time, and had instead a master, who proved himself a coward and a swindler in time of trouble. So the people decided on a Kind of Dale again, and of course Bard was chosen. So in the year 2977 TA, Bard's son Bain became King of Dale.
A friendly visit, 2949 TA
I don't know if a I am the only one who gets sad towards the end of The Hobbit. Poor Bilbo. Some of his friends have died, and the others he will never see again. That is sad. But then you learn that Balin came to see him, and he went of on adventures with the dwarves many times. And the world is pleasant again.
So it was in the year 2949 TA that Balin and Gandalf came to visit Bilbo in the Shire. A year after Theoden was born, and a year before Boromir's and Faramir's mother was born. That gives you an idea of how old dear Bilbo was. Very.
